Looking for a nice new home? You might want to buy a place in a neighborhood with a name that references water.
Porch, a platform that connects people with home improvement professionals, analyzed the words in neighborhood names that have the highest property values in the U.S. and found that language that indicated a waterfront dwelling dominated the list.
The top 10 words in neighborhood names with the highest home property values, according to Porch’s study, are:
Average home value: $440,386
Average home value: $423,325
Average home value: $416,332
Average home value: $396,472
Average home value: $341,997
Average home value: $334,292
Average home value: $310,438
Average home value: $301,066
Average home value: $277,058
Average home value: $275,947
On the flip side, the most common neighborhood names with the lowest property values had words including “fort” ($109,116 average home value), “junction” ($115,268 average home value) and “rock” ($115,395 average home value).
Porch also analyzed the words in neighborhood names with the highest average household incomes. Interestingly, overall, high-earning households are nestled within neighborhoods that give a nod to luxurious landscapes, like “hill,” “island,” “oaks,” “acres” and “beach.”
Porch analyzed data by zip code from the U.S. Census for all Census Designated Places analyzed, using words that showed up at least 25 times when looking at the entire country. See the complete methodology here.
